UNDER 10.5'S

MATCH REPORTS

Saturday 29th August, 2020

Another magnificent sunny August day saw us head to Labrador. A fairly even game throughout with each quarter tending to favour the side kicking with the wind.

Our team all played to the best of their abilities again today but yet again Ash played out of his skin and amassed many possessions in every part of the ground!

Our two new recruits - Hudson and Max also played well today with Hudson receiving the parents award today and special mention to Max for kicking not only the first goal of the match but his first ever goal in AFL footy

Well done on your efforts again today team.

Today saw our under 10.5 team take on Ormeau at home. The game proved to be quite even and we had a number of great plays throughout the game.

Noah Mariner received the parent award this week, he is a constant focal point for our team and always gets plenty of possessions each game. The coaches award this week went to Kydon who is improving each and every week. He always commits himself at training and does everything asked of him on game day, his confidence is soaring!

Well done to our award winners and well done team on another enjoyable game.

We played a very tall, fast and talented side in Pacific Pines. This was the second week in a row we have faced tough competition and although we struggled in the first half, we were able to hold our own in the second half. Each player tried their absolute best and we are trying each week to implement skills learned at training.

Our 2 players of the match this week was Riley who did everything that was asked of him during the match against players twice his own size, what he lacks in size he certainly makes up for in determination and skill! Our second award went to Jack for the second time in three weeks. Jack is always aggressive at the ball and reads the play very well so always gains plenty of possessions!

Well done Riley and Jack and well done team.

A good footballing lesson was learnt by our Under 10.5 side this week that even when you are a good side we can all have “off “games and that there will always be bigger, faster, Hungrier sides .... which highlights the importance of training to address areas we need to talk about and practice so that we can improve on and grow together as a team. The most important thing this week is that each and every player put 100% effort into the second half when they could have just given up and accepted defeat! And they all did it with a smile on their faces.

The 2 absolute stand outs this week was Hunter who played his best game of the season, I lost count of the number of possessions he amassed during the game!

Kaylee again took out our second award this week, she is on fire in this her very first season of AFL! Her determination to attack the football is a leading example to the rest of the team members. Well done Hunter and Kaylee.

As a result of a wash out the previous week we were lucky enough to play a make up game against Surfers Paradise on Wednesday night. It was a very competitive match with the lead swapping each 5 minutes however we were able to get our noses in front in the dying seconds!!

It was encouraging to see every member of the team putting into practice the skills we have been working on at training.

The two very deserving award winners this week were Noah who always seemed to be where the ball was this week and who showed blistering pace all game and Jack who was rock solid in defence, constantly moved the ball forward in the middle and took some amazing marks up forward!!

A great effort by the whole team and of course our fantastic, supportive parents who braved the cold night air to cheer on our little champions.

Another beautiful sunny winters day on the Gold Coast today as we travelled to Mudgeeraba. Right from the first bounce our team were switched on with all 4 forwards kicking a goal each whist our back line could only watch on from afar for the entire first quarter. This set the precedent for the rest of the match as we piled on more goals quarter after quarter.

It was encouraging to see each and every player take out onto the field what we have been practicing at training, and as a result all 13 players played out of their skins today!

Thank you to Kaylee who shone as our captain today and a massive well done to our 3 standout players this week who were Ash, Brad and Lochie, well done.

How lucky are we as parents? On a magnificent blue sky, warm winters day on Saturday we were able to witness our children in only their second game of the season play an outstanding game of footy!

Each parent watched on from the sidelines amazed at the sportsmanship, skill level and enthusiasm shown by ALL 13 of our players! Each player had a positive impact on the game and the coaches award this week went to Xavier who just kept running all game and had amazing determination to want that ball whenever it came in his third of the ground!

The parents award this week went to Charlie who made some very smart decisions by tapping the ball to teammates out of packs and who kicked the ball on several occasions a million miles down the ground!

Well done team and thank you parents for your enthusiastic support from the sidelines.

A fantastic performance from all of our Under 10.5 side on Saturday morning considering it was our first game for the season! The switched on positive attitudes which each player has shown at training was brought to the game.

Every player did what was asked of them and as a result played well as a team. A couple of award winning stand outs from Game 1 was Mannix who ran hard all game and applied more tackles than I could count and our Star first gamer Kaylee who took a brilliant mark and who certainly wasn’t afraid to get the hard ball whenever it came near her!!

Best of all was that the kids all had fun - with a competitive twist!
